Assisting OT team with RAZ AT Infection Control Shower Chair trial

Supporting safe, dignified showering in complex rehabilitation

When our Wealden Rehab team was given the opportunity to trial the RAZ AT Infection Control Shower Chair with an OT team in Peterborough, we hoped it would make a difference. What we didn’t expect was just how meaningful that difference would be.

The OT team had a client who had been in hospital for some time following a prolonged ITU stay. Because of low energy levels and poor sitting balance, she hadn’t been able to have a shower for quite some time. Like many people in her situation, this wasn’t just about hygiene, it was about feeling like herself again.

So when the chance came to trial the RAZ AT infection Control Shower Chair, the client didn’t hesitate to be a volunteer.

With the support of the shower chair, everything changed, the bathroom felt accessible again. Using the tilt function, she was able to sit safely and comfortably, conserving her energy while still taking part in her own care. For the first time in a long time, she was able to do parts of her showering independently.

It may sound like a small thing, but for her, it wasn’t. It was a moment of normality, dignity, and progress.

From a staff perspective, the experience was just as positive. The chair was easy to manoeuvre and straightforward to clean, which is essential in a busy clinical setting. It worked seamlessly with the transfer equipment already in use, including the Sara Stedy and full body hoists. Most importantly, it provided a level of comfort and support that gave both staff and patient confidence throughout the process.

This trial reminded us that the right equipment doesn’t just support care, it can transform it. Something as routine as a shower can have a profound impact on a person’s wellbeing, and the RAZ AT helped make that possible again.

Thank you very much for allowing our team to trial the RAZ AT infection Control Shower Chair. The shower chair has received excellent feedback from all staff and one in particular extremely grateful patient.
