The perfect bath support for growing teens

It's important to consider options that provide stability and support for growing children during bath time

Providing a bath support for an individual, whether they're a child or an adult facing physical or cognitive disabilities, can pose significant challenges. Thankfully, the Turtle bathing support offers an affordable and adaptable solution that not only enhances the user's overall experience but also simplifies the task for the caregiver.

Wealden Rehab were approached to support a user who had been successfully using a support chair for safe bathing for a number of years. However, her increasing size as she grows into a teenager combined with behavioural rolling in the bath means that the product can no longer hold her in a safe and secure way. Instead, the user was able to roll the support with her, increasing the likelihood that she would end up under the water and at risk of drowning.

The Turtle is available in five sizes, supporting users as they grow from a 30kg user weight with our Turtle size 0 to an 80kg user weight with our Turtle size 4. We quickly identified the Turtle size 4 bathing support chair as a much more appropriate piece of equipment to support this user during bath time.

What makes the Turtle the perfect bath time support?

Designed to be strong and lightweight, and available in five different sizes, this bathing support chair comes with adjustable pads and support belts, as well as tension adjustable mesh that moulds to the posture of the user, keeping them comfortable as well as safe.

One of the main issues with the existing bath support for this client is its narrow size. However, at 12cm the Turtle offered a wider support area than the users bath support, so the user can sit comfortably inside the support and not on the framework. In addition, the wider base of the Turtle greatly reduces the ability of the user to roll the support when moving.

Customisable options

Some minor adjustments were needed to optimise the Turtle for this user. This included moving the head pads to a lateral support position, which again reduced the risk of the client rolling in the bath, as well as keeping her safe and comfortable.

Compact and transportable

The generous width of the Turtle did not cause an issue with storing the product. One of the key benefits of the Turtle is that is can be simply taken out of the bath and folded away, enabling other family members to use the bathroom as usual. Its slimline design makes it easily transportable and stored too.

As the product was in stock, we were able to supply the Turtle bath support very quickly. Showing the user’s mother how to adjust the support correctly enabled us to arrange for a direct delivery of the Turtle to their home. This ensured that there were no delays in getting the right equipment in place for the user and immediately making bath time safer and easier for her and her mum.
