The Red RAZ

A paediatric client had been trialling a variety of different chairs on the market and was currently using a shower chair with a more solid seating system. This style of seat is common on most other competitor paediatric chairs. The current chair however was not supporting or absorbing the clients posture meaning it was found to be incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe when showering.

A custom colour to make the RAZ more fun

A paediatric client had been trialling a variety of different chairs on the market and was currently using a shower chair with a more solid seating system. This style of seat is common on most other competitor paediatric chairs. The current chair, however, was not supporting or absorbing the clients' posture meaning it was found to be incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe when showering.

The RAZ was the opposite to all of the above
and supported the client perfectly, in fact, the occupational therapist and mother of the client made comments about how it was better suited than the custom-made wheelchair that had not long been delivered. The backrest of the RAZ absorbed the curvature of the spine, allowing the laterals to offer maximum support and the soft seat supported the client’s pelvis in the most comfortable position and the tilt in space function of the RAZ-AT allowed for a safe position and access for carers.

But the client wanted something more
The family were very keen to make sure that the house did not have a clinical environment. The standard colour of the RAZ was much preferred to the standard white and light blue equipment that was already within the house. But the client made a suggestion to turn the chair red, in order to make it more fun for them and their siblings.

Turning the RAZ Red
The most challenging part of powder coating the frame was that every component needed to be removed from the frame, including the tilt system, castors and even the stickers! The base and subframe were then separated ready to be turned red. The red coating on the chair added 0.6mm thickness to the frame that meant putting the components back together required careful attention to ensure every part married up and worked smoothly. However, our fulfilment team made sure every last detail was 100%. Even the usual RAZ lime green components, backrest vinyl and tilt levers were changed to a black finish in order to not clash with the new red frame.

The client was over the moon with the result
The mother of the client said ‘it looks far better than I thought it would ever look. It’s an absolute show stopper. Thanks so much for the detailed effort.’

The RAZ was a huge success and has caught a lot of attention on social media. It has shown how much of a difference introducing some fun to equipment can make to a client
