It all starts with planning
The challenge? The gentleman was projected to weigh in excess of 50 stones, and lost his mobility and needed adequate equipment provision.
Beginning with a site meeting, Dale was able to survey the building, the access routes, and the structure, and discuss with the OT exactly what was required from the equipment.
This led to a proposal to install a GoLift 1000 hoist system to the bedroom/lounge area. The hoist would run on a XY track system allowing the patient to access his bed, his recliner chair and his commode.
The lounge had been equipped with double doors leading to the front driveway, so access was good. The room, a ground floor apartment, was old but in good condition. However it was deemed necessary to mount the hoist in such a way that it wouldn't fix to the ceiling as there uncertainty around construction of the ceiling and the possibility of asbestos contamination within the structure.
The track system is mounted on wall posts, three against each wall, to provide support to the fixed tracks. The track sysem is equipped with in-rail charging to allow the hoist to be left in most convenient space for the care assistants and still be in contact with the charging system.
Thankfully the ceiling had a reasonable height, but we also changed the light fitting to enable the passage of the travelling track. The GoLift 1000 is a twin-unit setup, utilising two GoLift 700 motor pods linked together with a linked spreader bar attachment. The safe working load of this setup is 72st, providing plenty of capacity for our client, whilst the compact design of the GoLift units enables an unrivalled lift height within the room. This is especially useful when manouvering persons of size.
