How the RAZ-AT600 Proved to be the Perfect Fit

The right care equipment can make all the difference for the user

Maintaining independence at home can be one of the greatest challenges for clients with disabilities. In many cases, the biggest barrier to independence is the structure of the home itself. This was the case for the user in this case study who had narrow doorways within their home, limiting the choice of aids available to them. This meant that the client’s existing chair – which had been supplied because it would fit through the narrow doorways – was too narrow for them to be able to sit comfortably. It also didn’t allow for good access when cleaning, preventing the client from cleaning herself effectively.

The only tilt in space that met both client and home requirements

Understandably, the client wanted to feel comfortable when using the chair with the ability to maintain her dignity and clean herself without additional support. The OT had searched various suppliers and found that the RAZ-AT600 was the only tilt-in-space shower commode chair that met both the client’s needs, and the limitations of the narrow doorway.

We visited the client’s home with a standard RAZ-AT600 so that we could assess its suitability for the user ourselves. The client was hoisted into the chair, and we ensured that it could be easily manoeuvred throughout the property. It was noted that the client’s feet were not properly supported, and we decided that it would be a good idea to use modified footplates that are shorter than the standard footplates on the shower chair.

How the RAZ-AT600 made bathroom time a success

The RAZ-AT600 bariatric shower chair is a heavy-duty tilting shower commode chair suited for plus size users up to 270kg. It has an exclusive Weight Assist Spring System (WASS) which can be configured to counter-balance the user’s weight for near-effortless tilting to 25° by a carer.

Other key features of the RAZ-AT600 include:

  • Seat depth adjustment
  • Backrest adjustment
  • Height adjustable chassis
  • Pelvic seat adjustment in the seat to meet postural requirements
  • Open-sided seat design
  • Flip-up arm rests

Improved mobility, comfort, and cleaning for a better quality of life

The client is extremely happy with the RAZ-AT600, which she finds comfortable, and that the carer has noted gives the user more access for improved cleaning. The user can use the RAZ-AT600 as a transfer method from her bedroom to her living room so that she can then be hoisted into her comfort chair. This has been extremely important for improving her quality of life as, since Christmas, the client has not had the equipment necessary to move her from her bedroom to the living room to be transferred, and so has been confined to her bedroom.

With improved mobility, cleaning and comfort, the client has seen a clear change in her quality of life thanks to the RAZ-AT600.
