Our product advisor Silas visited a lady in her early twenties with cerebral palsy, who had recently moved into care. She has a limited range of movement in her hips as well as curvature of the spine. This young lady previously lived at home with her mother, where she enjoyed taking baths. However, in her new home there is no bath, and the shower is too small to accommodate a shower trolley. It was imperative that she could still enjoy the experience of having a wash and replicate the sensation of laying down.  
 

Silas and Matthew came up with the brilliant idea of using two of our core products to create a custom solution: the Turtle Vacuum Support Cushion in conjunction with the RAZ AT Shower Chair.  
 

The RAZ AT features tilt in space and a reclining backrest that, when paired with elevating leg rests, can be adjusted to simulate laying down. Already in a moulded wheelchair, the client requires a moulded support for her postural needs. This is where we introduced the Vacuum Support cushion. The neoprene foam adapts perfectly to the shape of the user's body and ensures the correct position of the trunk, pelvis, limbs, and head. The back of the Vacuum Support is all Velcro. As a result, we could use Velcro straps to attach the support cushion to the chair's back and leg rests.  

This custom solution ensures our customer can continue to enjoy washing, an activity that is so vital to an individual's mental and physical wellbeing, as well as keeping her safe, supported, and comfortable.
