Our RAZ shower commode chairs are designed to be highly adjustable, meeting a wider variety of needs without accessories. RAZ shower chair features allow the chair to be fine-tuned to an individual user to create the perfect chair for the client and their environment.
Tension-adjustable upholstery is just one of the many features that contribute to creating a comfortable bathing environment. The ability to easily adjust the backrest tension is beneficial for both the carer and the user, providing instant support when needed. Additionally, knowing that the tension-adjustable back upholstery is machine-washable and can be removed without tools for cleaning adds to its convenience.
Overall, a tension-adjustable backrest enhances the versatility and adaptability of a shower or commode chair, making it a valuable feature for individuals with mobility challenges and their caregivers. It improves comfort, safety, and support, thereby enhancing the overall user experience.
When using tension-adjustable upholstery on a Raz chair we recommend considering the following points for optimum results:
- Loosening the upholstery straps will contour the back upholstery around the client’s trunk for improved comfort and lateral support. These adjustments can help accommodate sacral sitting, kyphosis and asymmetrical postures and, when used with IPAS, greatly improves the alignment of the client’s ITs with the seat’s aperture.
- Loosening the straps at the bottom of the back upholstery can help accommodate a gluteal shelf while providing upper back support.
- When combined with back angle adjustment to 97°, loosening the upholstery straps can put a client’s trunk in a more stable position without forcing them forward in the chair and potentially subjecting the ITs to higher pressures due to contact with the front of the aperture. A forward sitting user also puts additional weight on the front casters making the chair less manoeuvrable and less stable in the forward direction.
- The back upholstery can be raised 2.5” when the top two straps are positioned above the rigidiser bar (except on a 24”H back). This increases the gap between the bottom of the back upholstery and the top of the seat, improving access to the lower back area (see image below).

- To increase the gap between the back upholstery and the seat without raising the back height, move the upholstery up (as above) with the additional step of folding the top of the upholstery down (rearward) such that the top strap overlaps the second strap (directly above the rigidiser bar).
Adaptability: As the user's needs change over time due to medical conditions or physical limitations, having an adjustable backrest ensures that the chair can be adapted to meet the evolving requirements, prolonging its usability, and avoiding the need for frequent replacements.
