Good posture is important because it helps keep your body in alignment, which can contribute to a more effective bowel management routine. As you may know, to achieve good postural alignment, we need to start with the user’s base (pelvis) as this will have effect on the rest of the body.
A RAZ seat has been designed and shaped to stabilise the pelvis whilst allowing room for toileting. The unique shape effects the user’s upper body through pelvic stability and also offers one of the best distributions of pressure seen through a pressure mapping study for shower/commode chairs.
Along with the pelvic stability, the RAZ also provides a tension adjustable backrest as standard with the chair. This backrest can be slackened in order to accommodate every type of posture. This backrest will then accommodate any spinal curvature whilst also providing a degree of lateral support for users with one sided muscle weakness.
We have found in many individual cases and though studies carried out by community equipment loan stores, the RAZ in most situations has enough adjustment in its standard form to provide good postural management without the need for any accessories.
