Even the best care equipment needs a little TLC.
And that’s especially true when it comes to shower and bathing products.
With the right care and maintenance, you can extend the lifespan of your essential equipment — getting more value from the products you use with your clients, and keeping your care environment as hygienic as possible.
Here’s what you need to know about the Turtle Bath Support — and how to keep it in top condition:
Keeping it dry
This is the most important step you can take to look after your bath support and extend its life — and it’s also one of the easiest.
Just like any good bathing and hygiene product, the Turtle is designed for the wettest conditions. It’s waterproof and non-slip — and it won’t float when it’s submerged in water.
But that doesn’t mean it should stay wet when it’s not in use:
When you put wet products into storage (even waterproof ones), there’s still some water left on the frame and the fabric.
Over time, that water can lead to a build-up of bacteria and other particles, which can create a residue on the frame — or in the small spaces in the mesh of the waterproof fabric.
That can make it harder to clean, and could be a hygiene issue if it’s neglected.
So to keep your bath support clean and fresh for longer, you should always:
- Dry the frame and fabric after each use
- Store it in a dry environment with good ventilation
- Store it so that air can circulate (not stacked up with other products).
Can water get trapped? Some low-quality bathing products use hollow tubes for their frames. These hollow frames can collect and trap water, which leads to hygiene issues. With the Turtle, the frame is filled with polyurethane — which prevents it from taking on water (and helps to stop it from floating). |
Washing the cover
The Turtle uses a waterproof mesh fabric to create a comfortable seating area. But even though it’s waterproof, it still needs regular cleaning.
There’s no universal rule for how often you should be washing it — it depends on how frequently you use your bath support, and the condition of the cover after each use.
But in general, we usually recommend inspecting and cleaning your bath support at least once a week.
Luckily, it’s designed for easy cleaning with a removable cover. Here’s a quick video to show you how it’s done:
Once you’ve removed the cover, you can either wipe it down, or clean it in a washing machine.
But remember that the cover isn’t a typical fabric. That means you should:
- Wash at 60°C or lower
- Avoid ironing and tumble drying
- Avoid using solvents or harsh chemicals.
Cleaning the frame
The Turtle is built with a waterproof aluminium frame that’s easy to dry and easy to clean.
But it’s also highly adjustable, which means it comes with multiple moving parts and hinges.
These hinges and joints can sometimes trap dirt or hair after use, which can lead to a build-up of residue or bacteria over time — and might eventually affect the proper motion of the hinges.
So as well as a weekly clean of the removable cover, you should also wipe down the frame itself, with extra attention on the joints and moving parts.
(And just like with the cover, you should avoid using solvents or any harsh chemicals.)
Should I be worried about rust?Unlike some other products, the Turtle is made with an aluminium frame. As well as making it lightweight and strong, the aluminium frame prevents rust and corrosion — helping to extend the life of your bath support. |
