A national care home provider saves money, improves service and streamlines procurement admin by partnering with Wealden for specialist seating ideal multi-user environments.
Requirements
Barchester Healthcare specialises in delivering top-quality care in well-staffed, comfortable and secure homes. When the Care Act came into force in March 2016, the group started to review its equipment to ensure compliance and enhance its CQC ratings.
As part of this process, the group was looking for a single partner to supply all its specialist seating, so it would benefit from economies of scale and streamline procurement.
Challenge
Across its homes, the group needed seating suitable for largely independent, mobile users through to highly dependent users who need to be hoisted. Not only did the seating need to meet clinical requirements around postural support and pressure management, but it also needed to be able to adapt to these multi-user environments cost effectively.
Most importantly, Barchester needed a partner with the resource and reach to support more than 200 homes nationally with a fast service, including carrying out assessments, providing training and delivering products quickly.
Barchester’s procurement and clinical teams reviewed 11 seating suppliers. They chose Wealden because our adjustable products are ideal for multi-use environments, and because we could deliver a high-quality service with national coverage and fast response times.
Solution
Barchester originally wanted us to audit homes as and when they contacted us with a need, but being proactive is at the heart of our approach. Within just over a month of partnering with Barchester, we had already assessed and audited approximately 50% of its homes – and we’re on track to complete the entire portfolio within 3 months.
As well as assessing each home’s needs, we’ve also been training staff on the chairs so everyone feels confident using the equipment. We also provide monthly reporting with a summary of the homes visited, audits and assessments carried out and performance against agreed targets. This has made it easier for Barchester to monitor spend and service provision across the group.
Importantly, our adjustable seating is making it easier for Barchester homes to meet the wide range of resident requirements. As a result, they’re able to meet more needs with fewer chairs, saving money on procurement and maintenance. This, combined with our competitive pricing, means that Barchester is now getting significantly more value from its specialist seating budget.
