What are shower chairs? And what are shower chairs used for?

Now these questions may seem simple but, in this blog, we are going to explain what a shower chair is, the benefits of using a shower chair and why we think our range of shower chairs are the best on the market.

What are shower chairs?

A shower chair is quite simply a waterproof wheelchair, that can be used within a level access shower area. An aperture in the seat may be a feature included so the chair can combine to be a commode or to be wheeled over a toilet.

The benefits of using a shower chair

A shower chair provides maximum support whilst in a sitting position- the chair may come with features such as a back rest recline, tilt in space or forward tilt. These are all used to ensure showering is comfortable for the user and to accommodate the needs of different disabilities. The minimum transfer effort when using a shower chair helps the users showering routine become simpler and if able will increase independence.

Where to buy a shower chair?

An Occupational Therapist (OT) would normally prescribe a new or replacement shower chair. If you do not have an occupational therapist then you can contact your local council to be referred to one.

Shower chairs are also available for private purchase, if you wish to discuss with the Wealden Rehab sales team you can contact them here.

The RAZ and JAZ shower chair range

RAZ shower chairs are designed to be highly adjustable, meeting a wider variety of needs without accessories. Multiple features allow the chair to be fine-tuned to an individual user or can be easily adjusted for it to become the perfect chair for a multiuser environment. All RAZ chairs in the range are designed so adjustments can be made for a user whose needs might change or progress overtime and will prevent the need for changing or upgrading the equipment when demands change.

The JAZ shower chairs offer exceptional function and comfort at an affordable price. The JAZ range is very durable and easy to clean which makes it an ideal choice for infection-control environments.
